Drive-In Rack in Cleveland, OH
Drive-in rack removes aisles from the equation entirely. The forklift drives inside the structure and sets pallets on continuous rails, which packs more positions into a given footprint than pushback, flow, or selective ever will. The cost is access: only the pallets at the open end of the lane are reachable until you work through the ones in front.
That makes it the right call for large volumes of a small number of SKUs - bulk buffer stock, seasonal inventory, freezer product - and the wrong call the moment SKU variety climbs. Drive-in loads and unloads from one end for LIFO; drive-through is open at both ends for FIFO, at the cost of a few positions and a second access aisle.
We lay out drive-in around your specific lift truck's dimensions and your SKU depth, then put the position count next to a selective plan of the same footprint so the density gain is a number, not a sales claim.
Why Cleveland Warehouses Work With Us
Older industrial floors need storage plans that account for columns, changing ceiling heights and receiving space. For a Cleveland project near Collinwood and the Cuyahoga Valley, that means checking the actual floor plan before treating an open rectangle as available storage. We review forklift width and mast clearance, pallet support surfaces, SKU depth and rotation requirements, along with columns, dock approaches and the space production needs to keep working.
The industrial activity around Port of Cleveland and I-90/I-77 gives your project a practical setting, not a reason to assume every building behaves alike. Where bulk shipments competing with staging space, we compare drive-in rack against another suitable arrangement. The drawing should show the operational tradeoff as well as the additional storage, so the decision reflects your Cleveland inventory rather than a catalog claim.
As a division of Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co., we connect your storage requirements with design, quoting and installation planning. You receive an itemized scope, a drawing to review and a contact for revisions. Delivery access, work zones and approval responsibilities are discussed before the schedule is agreed.
How Drive-In Rack Works
Continuous rails, not beams
Pallets rest on rails carried by upright frames rather than individual beam levels, so a lane accepts pallet after pallet at the same elevation.
The truck enters the lane
The driver travels inside the bay to place or retrieve each load. Lane width, rail height, and mast clearance get dimensioned to that specific truck, not a generic one.
One open end or two
One open end gives LIFO and the highest density available. Two open ends give FIFO with slightly fewer positions, since each lane now needs clearance from both sides.
Guarding built into the design
Guide rails, column guards, and rail-end protection are part of the spec from the start, to help protect frames and stored loads from forklift contact.

Where It Fits Best
What We Need to Design It
- What forklift will enter the lanes, and what are its exact dimensions?
- How many pallets do you hold per SKU?
- Do you need LIFO, or does the product require drive-through FIFO?
- What's the clear height and floor condition in the storage area?
- How many total pallet positions are you trying to reach?
What a Project Includes
A drive-in rack project in Cleveland begins with measurements and inventory information. We collect forklift width and mast clearance, pallet support surfaces, SKU depth and rotation requirements. We also review usable clear height, columns and receiving access near Port of Cleveland and I-90/I-77. Those inputs determine which configuration can be supported and operated safely; a nominal position count alone is not enough to order the system.
Our design team prepares a CAD layout showing row or lane locations, usable storage, handling aisles and the required elevations. The quote identifies upright frames, continuous pallet rails, rail supports, guide rails and entry guards. When another rack type is a sensible alternative, we compare it on the same floor plan so you can weigh access, rotation and storage capacity against the actual cost. Accessories and installation responsibilities are stated rather than left to be decided after delivery.
Before the order is released, we confirm the drawing, load information, manufacturer requirements and the agreed installation scope. The delivery and installation plan reserves receiving space and isolated work areas. A phased schedule can be considered, but available inventory space and safe separation determine whether it is practical for your operation.
The installation review covers truck clearances, pallet bearing, rail alignment and documented load limits. Your team receives capacity information for the finished configuration and a drawing to use when discussing future changes. If bulk shipments competing with staging space changes as inventory grows, we can revisit the layout rather than assuming the original arrangement remains appropriate.
